Financial Aid/Assistantships

The Department of Communication Studies offers a variety of graduate assistantships for students accepted into the M.A. in Communication Program. Please indicate when you are applying to the graduate program if you wish to be considered for an assistantship. Students already accepted to the M.A. program can also apply to be considered for an assistantship. Please note that to be considered for a departmental assistantship, your application must be submitted in full by January 15th.

All assistantships require twenty hours of work per week and you cannot have employment outside of the assistantship.  The specific assignments will vary. You must plan to attend school full-time for assistantship consideration.

The Department of Communication Studies supports a number of students with teaching and research assistantships. Assistantships are awarded on a strictly competitive basis. Further information on assistantships is available from the Graduate Program, Dr. Erin Basinger.

In addition to departmental graduate assistantships, you may apply for Graduate Assistant positions in other university departments such as The Graduate School, Undergraduate Admissions, the University Center for Academic Excellence and the Department of Housing & Residence Life. Please contact the specific department you wish to apply to for further information. You may also check the Graduate School's website periodically for assistantship opportunities outside of our department.

Federal financial aid offers a number of scholarships and fellowships as well. More information about these opportunities can be obtained by contacting the Graduate School directly.
